Frankfurter Bankentag 2025 – Financial education as a compass for the future
3rd of June 2025

“Financial education is not a luxury - it's a must.”

On June 3, 2025, it was that time again: the Frankfurter Bankentag brought together representatives from politics, business, academia and the financial sector in the traditional domed hall of the Deutsche Bundesbank Head Office in Hesse.

This year's event focused on a topic that could not be more urgent: Financial education.

Why financial education must be a priority now

Germany is one of the few OECD countries that has not yet developed a national strategy to promote financial education - even though it is a crucial key to individual economic self-determination, but also to the resilience of our economy.

At the Frankfurt Banking Day 2025, we therefore initiated a targeted dialog around three key questions:

What is the political future of financial education after the general election?

What impetus can the financial center and Hesse provide?

What can we learn from international approaches?

Top-level panel - strong perspectives

During the panel discussion, high-ranking representatives provided important impetus for the future of financial education:

Uwe Becker, State Secretary at the Hessian Ministry of Finance

MMag.a Barbara Eibinger-Miedl, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Finance (AT)

Lutz Lienenkämper, Member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Bundesbank

Sabine Mlnarsky, Member of the Board of Managing Directors of Commerzbank AG

Prof. Dr. Nils Stieglitz, President of the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management

A longterm tradition: the Förderpreis

As every year, a special highlight was the awarding of the "Förderpreis" to the best graduates of Frankfurt School's part-time degree programs.

With this award, we not only recognize outstanding individual achievements, but also send a clear signal about the importance of lifelong learning.

Financial education as a core topic

Financial education is one of the core topics of the Bankenverband Mitte, which is why we are particularly committed to imparting financial knowledge in schools. But the importance goes far beyond this, because people need good tools to navigate financial issues with confidence - even later in their careers or in everyday life.

Financial education is a team sport.

And we are convinced that it will only be possible to launch a national strategy together with politicians, businesses and educational institutions.

Many thanks to Dr. Ulf Slopek, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank Head Office in Hesse, for once again inviting us to the Kuppelsaal - a venue that has become home to the Frankfurt Banking Day.
