  • Mario Mattera elected new Chairman

 The General Meeting of Bankenverband Mitte has elected Mario Mattera, Member of the Board, B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. AG, as the new Chairman. He will take office on 31 March 2022 and succeeds Bettina Orlopp, Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of Managing Directors of Commerzbank AG, who is stepping down as Chair by rotation after three years in office.

Bettina Orlopp will continue to support the Bankenverband Mitte as Deputy Chairwoman of the Board. She will be joined by Matthias Bock, Member of the Executive Board and General Counsel, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE, and Matthias Buck, Head of the Corporate Bank Central Region and Spokesman of the Central Regional Management of Deutsche Bank AG, as Deputy Chairmen of the Bankenverband Mitte.

I look forward to continuing Bettina Orlopps successful work together with my fellow board members and the team around Sarah Schmidtke, said Mario Mattera. On behalf of the associations board and its members, I would like to thank Bettina Orlopp very much. Under her leadership, we have succeeded in reorganising the federation in terms of personnel and content. She has also been instrumental in driving forward the merger to form Bankenverband Mitte, thus creating efficient structures. I am very pleased to continue working with her in our Executive Board team.

Mario Mattera has been with Metzler since 2002. As a board member of B. Metzler seel. Sohn & Co. AG, he is responsible for the Capital Markets business segment. He is also a permanent member of the banks Credit Committee and heads the Treasury Committee.

With Mario Mattera, we have been able to win a very committed successor who has already supported our association work since 2020 and was elected to the Board last year. I wish him good luck and success in his new task, says Bettina Orlopp.

Bankenverband Mitte e. V., based in Frankfurt am Main, represents the interests of private banks in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Through close cooperation, it benefits from the expertise of a top economic association in numerous specialist areas. At the same time, it promotes the interests of its members throughout Germany and internationally via the Federal Association.
